Bio
Tim Kelly is an Emmy-winning composer who has composed scores for live-action movies, a diverse range of television shows, commercials and more. With over thirty years of experience, Tim has composed and orchestrated music for acclaimed animated shows like Warner Bros. Steven Spielberg Presents: Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Batman: The Animated Series created by Bruce Timm and Watchmen Chapters 1 & 2. With five Emmy nominations, his wins stem from 1999 for Animaniacs, 2000 for Histeria! and 2019 for Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash.
After graduating from Cal State Northridge with a degree in composition, Tim established himself as a solid orchestrator at Warner Bros. Animation, quickly landing a spot working with supervising composer Richard Stone. He thrived on Stone’s team, honing his skills and bringing his scores to life in much the same way as classic Hollywood film scores were created, on a scoring stage conducting a live orchestra. Tim’s recent animated projects include collaborating with seasoned director/producer Brandon Vietti (Young Justice, Under the Red Hood) on a series of Lego DC Comics movies and a retelling of the iconic graphic novel in Watchmen Chapters 1 & 2. The recently released animated Watchmen movies (2024) feature a moody, analog synth score he composed to match the brooding style of the story, which is set in the 1980s.
Early in his career, Tim was captivated by the sound of electronic dance music, which had exploded across the international music scene. Having a lifelong love for synthesizers and groove-oriented music, he soon immersed himself in producing techno tracks and in the Watchmen movies, he incorporated the skills for creating hand-crafted electronic sounds into the cinematic palette for dramatic scoring.
